Why does moving between two worlds so often mean losing one of them?
Fashion routinely borrows from India — a print, a motif, a silhouette lifted and flattened into a trend. And fashion routinely arrives in India from Europe — cut for a body, a climate, and a woman it was never made to fit.
DHHAGAÉ exists because neither felt honest. A thread, to us, was never just fabric — it's the line between who you are and what you choose to wear. We didn't think that line should have to cross an ocean and lose itself along the way.

Everything begins in the same place: a length of undyed cloth, a bowl of pigment drawn from the earth, and hands that have done this work for longer than any one generation can claim.
India's textile regions are not factories. They are households, courtyards, and small workshops where a technique is inherited the way a language is — spoken before it is ever formally taught.

Heritage
India's textile heritage speaks in many hands. Ajrakh's resist block-printed geometry from Kutch. Kalamkari's hand-painted, naturally dyed narratives from the Deccan. Bandhej's thousand tiny knots from Rajasthan and Gujarat. Each is a discipline refined over generations — distinct enough to be recognised by touch alone, long before it's recognised by name.
This is heritage in the true sense — not costume, not print, not motif borrowed for effect.
The Journey of Making

To make one DHHAGAÉ piece is to move through a sequence that cannot be rushed. Cloth is woven, hand-tied point by point, dyed in natural pigments, then released, dried, cut and constructed into a contemporary silhouette.
Hand-Tied
Every Bandhej point is tied by hand, one by one. Each knot resists the dye and helps shape the pattern that will later be revealed.
Naturally Dyed
The tied cloth is immersed in natural pigments such as Madder root and pomegranate rind, building colour while the bound points remain protected.
Made to Wear
After dyeing, the ties are opened and the pattern is revealed. The cloth is then washed, dried, cut and constructed into its final silhouette.

None of this exists without the people who hold the craft. We build our supply chain to protect that relationship directly — sourcing from the artisans and workshops who practise these crafts as their inheritance.
This is also personal. Our founder grew up inside a family fabric manufacturing business in India, where this respect for the maker was never a brand value to adopt — it was simply how cloth was made.

Founder
DHHAGAÉ was not built by one person — it was built by three of us, who grew up watching extraordinary Indian craftsmanship go unnoticed, undervalued, and uncredited, and decided that had to change. We wanted to build something that respected the hands behind the craft as much as the woman who would eventually wear it.
So we did what felt honest: we combined what we each knew best — how to build something that lasts, how to design with restraint and intention, and how to tell a story slowly and truthfully — into a single brand. No one of us could have built DHHAGAÉ alone. Together, it became a house rooted in Indian heritage craft, and designed for a modern European life.
